Lancelot Armstrong Florida

Lancelot Armstrong
Lancelot Armstrong is a black man who has been on death row in the state of Florida since 06/26/91.

Crime

He was convicted of 2 counts of Robbery with a gun or deadly weapon, Premeditated 1st Degree Murder, and attempted murder., committed on 02/04/90. In the early morning hours of 02/17/90, Lancelot Armstrong, the defendant, and Michael Coleman entered Church’s Fried Chicken restaurant under the pretense of visiting Kay Allen.  Allen was the assistant manager of Church’s and the former girlfriend of the defendant.  Initially, Allen refused to meet with Armstrong, but eventually accompanied him to his car outside, while Coleman stayed in the restaurant.

According to testimony, the defendant told Allen he was going to rob the restaurant and that, if she did not cooperate, he might have to kill her.  All the other employees had gone home, so Armstrong, Allen and Coleman were alone.  When getting the money out of the safe, Allen managed to pull the silent alarm.

Deputy Sheriffs Robert Sallustio and John Greeney arrived at the scene to find Armstrong in the car and Coleman still in the restaurant.  Shots fired from inside the restaurant distracted the officers, enabling Armstrong to reach for his gun and to open fire on the officers as well.  Sallustio was struck three times and Greeney was killed instantly.

Armstrong and Coleman fled the state and were apprehended in Maryland.  Investigators determined that bullets from Armstrong’s gun killed Greeney because he suffered from shots fired at close-range.

  1. I have been in close contact with Lancelot Armstrong since spring 2012. We write letters to each other regularly. Since a few years also e-mails via Jpay. We have also been able to talk on the phone for a few years now.
Lancelot is a wonderful person who did not deserve what he experienced on death row. He has denied the crime he is accused of from the beginning. Kay Allen has confirmed Lancelot's innocence in an interview with an investigator. We have a lot of information about this on our website www.ihfl.de, including the aforementioned interview with Kay Allen.
The death sentence against Lancelot Armstrong was overturned in January 2017 because it was reached under unconstitutional circumstances. Nevertheless, he had to remain on Florida's death row until the summer of 2021. Only then was the sentence commuted to life imprisonment and he was transferred from death row to another prison. Lancelot was on death row for over 30 years!
During that time Lancelot painted beautiful paintings. Many of them can be viewed on our website https://armstrongkunst.wordpress.com.
For me Lancelot has become like a brother and I feel terrible about what is and was done to him. He had an extremely terrible childhood in Jamaica. There he was even tortured by the police with electric shocks! - But coming to the U.S. has only brought him more suffering....
Even if Lancelot Armstrong had committed the crime he is accused of, he would have been free in my home country Germany long ago. I will continue to fight for his freedom, because if one person deserves freedom, then it is my friend and brother Lancelot Armstrong, for whom there is nothing more important than the love for people...
