Crime
Kelly Eckart was an 18 year old freshman attending
Franklin College, working her way through school with a part-time job
at Walmart. On September 27, 1997 she left work, met briefly with her
boyfriend and drove towards her home in Shelby County. That was the last
time she was seen alive. The next morning, her car was found abandoned
in a rural area, with its lights on and keys in the ignition. Four days
later, the partially nude body of Kelly Eckart was found in a ravine in
Brown County. She had been strangled with her own shoe string and a
strap cut from the suspenders of her overalls. She had also been shot
once in the forehead. Semen was discovered on the victim which was later
matched through DNA analysis as
having been contributed by Overstreet.
The defendant’s brother first contacted the police and admitted that the
defendant called him on the 27th, he had met him at a hotel, drove his
van, and transported him and a girl to a remote wooded area where he
dropped them off. The Defendant returned later and moved the body to
Brown County. Fibers found on the victim’s body matched those from the
defendant’s van, which he had spent several hours cleaning before the
victim’s body was found. An eyewitness identified the defendant near the
dump site on the day the body was recovered.

Hang him !
ReplyDeleteshow him the respect he gave to kelly that night and terminate this subhuman garbage.again the victim is forgotten and it becomes about excuses for the life the murderer had experienced up to doing the crime.he wasted a beautiful life and we should waste his pronto.bleeding hearts and hypocritical lawyers run the show and murderers rely on it.no fairness for the victim or families ,they just get process and system failure then forgotten.i saw this case on a tv show in australia and boy we need the death penalty strictly enforced.alas we dont have it here
DeleteHis appeal was denied more than a decade ago and another appeal filed also more than a decade ago. Why is this still pending. This means that tax payers have been paying his room and board and all legal fees for more than 20 years. You wonder why the people hate the legal system. This is a perfect example.
ReplyDeleteThe death penalty is not good for the families - so many appeals and what not. If they are locked up for life without, that's it it's over save for maybe an appeal. The man who murdered my niece must serve 28 years before he can be paroled. We will likely all be died by that time.
DeleteThe death penalty is perfect and cheap - the cost of drugs is under $100
DeleteThe problem is they get too many appeals.
Give them one or two appeals (maximum two years) and execute them
Don't drag it on and on for decades
Letting them rot for life is not good - the cost of food, accommodations, guards, electricity, health care, it all adds up!
Thanks for sharing your opinion. We appreciate all interactions.
DeleteMy sister was murdered in North Carolina and tossed in the woods like a piece of garbage. He ended up only getting 13 years on plea deal and we the family wanted it to go to trial to get max time and states attorney or DA can make that decision without your agreement. So if you say you want it to go to trial it doesn’t matter they have the final say. It’s all about taking care of the person who committed the crime not the families as they would like you to believe. Look up Celeste Fowler found dead in North Carolina and you can see story. Still haunts me to this day. I believe in karma though and he will get what’s coming. His name is Thillbert Wayne Hager piece of garbage
DeleteI am so sorry for your loss :( Thanks for sharing your experience, it matters.
DeleteWhen DNA is used, they shouldn’t get any appeals. When it’s not, they should get three years to use three appeals and then carry through the execution. The electric chair needs to be brought back. Who fears getting put to sleep?
ReplyDeleteAmen!
DeleteWhy wasn't his brother charged as an accomplis?
ReplyDeleteAccording to this article, https://prodeathpenalty.com/case/michael-overstreet
DeleteThe brother immediately came forward, so likely he was treated as a witness instead of an accused? He may not have known this was a crime at the time it all happened?
He was granted immunity in exchange for his testimony.
DeleteOffered immunity for his testimony
ReplyDeleteMake him watch Everton FC for the rest of his life that is worse than being executed.
ReplyDeleteHahahaha.. Yeah their not doing well in 2020. I'm a Chelsea guy
DeleteWhat a knob head comment from a Red Shite Gob Shite!

DeleteA judge ruled he was too incompetent to be executed.
ReplyDeletehe doesn't need to be competent to be executed.
Deletestupid judge, probably liberal crybaby.
Justice my ass! Execute this pig already. I'm tired of paying for his meals.
ReplyDeleteI would bring back the old sparky for this sicko.
ReplyDeletestrap him in, and fry him slowly till smokes starts coming out.
Why is it that everyone preaches about rights, yet the accused always get more rights than the victim or their families. This sick sob has been sitting on death row for 20 years? Death sentence should mean death. Not well keep you comfy until its convenient for us to execute you and gain some publicity out of it!!! Seems ALWAYS ALWAYS the victims family comes last! M6 heart goes out to her mother!!!
ReplyDeleteWhy does it take so long for the accused in the USA to be executed?
ReplyDeleteWhen we had the death penalty in the UK the accused was hanged within two weeks.
I watched this story on ID and his wife is the one who went to the cops. strange here
ReplyDeleteI will have to look for the highlights on you tube to see if I can add the details. Thanks for letting me know.
