Crime

Welch and his girlfriend broke into a house and killed six people inside, injuring two others. He had previously threatened the family, including a former girlfriend, and they had pressed criminal charges against him.

A jury found defendant David Esco Welch guilty of six counts of first degree murder in a single incident during the morning of December 8, 1986. It also found him guilty of two counts of attempted murder in connection with the same incident, and one count of concealing a firearm as a felon. It found true a multiple-murder special-circumstance allegation.

His victims include: Barbara Mabrey, Dellane Mabrey, Sean and Darnell Mabrey, Catherine Walker and Dwayne Miller.

Rita Lewis was also convicted and imprisoned. She is currently 62 years old and resides in prison despite being eligible for parole in 2017.

Previously sentenced to death, but the sentence was overturned by a judge in 2015 Crime Barnett was waiting for his grandparents when they returned home around 1:00 p.m. He confronted his grandmother and pushed her down in the hallway.
